Lessons of a Colourful Decade

I began this journey of Self-Discovery, instigated by a one-way ticket to Bangkok in August 2014. Yes, it was as dramatic as it sounds! I have been travelling, moving, and doing different things since but mostly journeying deeper within, I still haven’t booked the return.

So I thought I would share 10 (of many) lessons from my experiences over the last 10 years.

  1. Nature Heals. Just smell the ocean or kiss a flower.
  2. Interconnectedness. We are all intertwined and interconnected with each other and the universe. Every action and thought has a direct or indirect effect, creating ripples that extend far beyond what we can see. We already are and can change the world we live in.
  3. Everything is for our gain. Everything can be a lesson to evolve and learn from. Even if it can’t be objectively proven, it’s a perspective that can enrich your life.
  4. Follow your intuition. You always kind of know from the beginning, tap into that inner wisdom, and don’t let the mind override it.
  5. Forgiveness sets everyone free. Otherwise, we chain others to the past and chain ourselves in doing so.
  6. Embrace Change. Everything is always changing, if we remain aware of this and open to changes in ourselves, in others and in the world, we can flow with the transformations of life instead of being exhausted by them.
  7. Your dreams are never too big. Don’t settle for what’s ‘realistic,’ as it’s based on your current perspective, not the possibilities life will reveal over time. Trust the process—even if the journey doesn’t always resemble the destination, keep your vision clear, take steps towards it and believe that everything you need will come in time. Apples don’t appear a day after you plant the seed.
  8. Kindness is a gift that rewards both the giver and the receiver. Give and receive are two words for the same thing when done in sincerity.
  9. Experience is the Best Teacher. Knowing things intellectually is one thing, but there is no substitute for direct experience
  10. And the biggest learning, which is the core of what I have made my life about and hope to inspire others to do the same is…Realisation of Our True Nature. The realisation of our true Self—what we are beyond all the layers—is the only way out of suffering. It is the most powerful force for change in the world.

What would you have on your list from the last decade?
