I’ve been in the Himalayas for almost three months and finally found a rhythm that works for me. There’s always an adjustment period with new places, faces, and situations.
What remains consistent for me wherever I go is that the mornings are mine! I like getting up early and doing everything that makes me feel like myself before the rest of the world wakes up. This is natural for me. What is also normal for me is the midday slump when I don’t feel like doing anything. For a long time, I thought I was lazy and pushed myself to be as productive as I am in the mornings.
Then, a few years ago, I became obsessed with psychology tests to understand myself better. I came across chronotypes explaining your natural inclination to do certain things at certain times. Finally, my slump made sense, and the pressure lifted!
Understandably, we put pressure on ourselves. Growing up in the global north “west” is starkly different from my years living in South America and India. There is a constant message to be better, progress, and be consistent. While these are important, they don’t always look linear. In nature, life cycles are everywhere, so it’s natural for us to have ups and downs.
Understanding my cycle meant I could make decisions to suit it, making me more productive and happier. This is the benefit of knowing yourself. We are liberated because we no longer put pressure on ourselves to “perform” if it doesn’t align with our cycle.
So, shine a light on your Self through some Self-inquiry!
I’ve left a link to the chronotypes quiz here. I’m a lion! Let me know if your type resonates!
We can’t do much about our inherent nature, but we can understand it better and with this understanding, we’re better positioned to make changes that are aligned with who we are.
Be well!
